1. Quality of frame
What is the frame made from? Will the colour last? What hinges are being used? You should be asking all of these questions if you are looking for a quality pair of sunglasses.
Our sunglasses are crafted using a specific plant-based Acetate from the Mazzucchelli factory in Milan, Italy. Our most recent ranges are made from M49 bio-acetate which is classed as a bio-degradable material. Pretty cool right?
So what is acetate? Acetate is derived from materials such as sustainably sourced wood pulp and cotton. When manufactured, acetate’s natural colour is embedded into the material itself as opposed to coated, which makes it unparalleled to most other plastics. It is also of strong, lightweight, and flexible nature, which makes it incredibly resilient in structure. Have I convinced you yet?
We use premium stainless steel hinges on our sunglasses offering unmatched durability.
2. Protection of the lens
Your eyes are one of the most sensitive parts of your body and choosing the right eyewear can not only help with your vision at the time, but help protect the longevity of your vision.
All of our frames are fitted with featherweight TAC (Tri-Acetate Cellulose) lenses, which are lightweight, scratch resistant, and most importantly - our lenses are polarized with 100% UVA protection.
Why choose polarized sunglasses? Polarized sunglasses have been one of the most recent changes to eyewear around the world. A virtually invisible filter can be apple to the lens that can substantially reduce glare, therefore making your vision sharper and clearer.
3. Comfort
How do the sunglasses fit on your head, over your ears, and on your nose? Are they comfortable? Do they make your head ache?
When designing our bored.george ranges comfort was always at the forefront of the design, and over time we have made slight changes to increase the comfort of our sunglasses when being worn. Firstly we have core rod wires in the temples of our sunglasses, that allow the temples to be bent and molded to suit each head shape. Secondly, we have found the ideal nose bride size to suit most faces, avoiding that tight feeling you can get with other sunglasses. And lastly, we have an ergonomic tip at the end of our temples that will maximize comfort.
4. Brand
Now this one may not be as obvious, but are you wearing a brand you can be proud of supporting? Does the brand follow ethical practices? Are they doing their best to become more sustainable in their practices? Does the brand have a good story and stand for something you can get on board with?
Ill leave this one for you to ponder on because these questions should not only be asked when purchasing eyewear…. But to consider when making all purchases. Clothing is a great place to start.
5. Lastly… How do they make you feel
At bored george we are firm believers that sunglasses are much more than a product to provide you with eye protection. They are an accessory, a best friend to take with you everywhere, and a tool to reflect a mood, attitude, and personality. Do they make you feel bold, boujee, confident, fun, flirty, classy, fierce, or even a little bit devious…. Take note of how your sunglasses make you feel, and if they reflect that mood you're after, you've found your match!
