Cherry blossoms are in full bloom across Aotearoa. The fresh breeze and warm sunrays shining on our skin, remind us that the spring and summer seasons are just around the corner. āTis the season for being outdoors, walking around the gardens and picnicking on a field with your loved ones. Bored George promises to take care of your eyes while you spend quality time with your people. Here are some sunnies guides for your curated outfits:Ā
If you're a classy gal, wider-frame glasses enhance the business-chic look while keeping it demure and casual. To spice things up, go for an animal pattern like our best-seller Piper Tort, or choose a unique and timeless frame likeĀ Ned to amplify that assertive and refined girlboss moment.Ā
On days when all you feel like wearing is a tank top with dress pants, jeans, or jorts, a thin vintage frame like Milla elevates your outfit with a timeless vintage vibe and classy details that never go wrong.Ā
Having a hot girl summer is tough without protective eyewear to shield your eyes during all those hours spent by the beach. Trust me, a cat-eye frame like Demi or Rhia gives a touch of femininity is the way to go. Itāll let you live your cool surfer girl dream while still holding onto elegance and style.Ā Ā
With spring just knocking on our door, Bored George understands the need to slay while staying protected from the sun and anything else that could ruin your day. Thatās why we offer a variety of options made from high-quality materials, featuring polarised lenses with 100% UVA protection.Ā
Getting ready for spring šø
Is your closet overflowing with a pile of āstuffā you're unsure how to style during this weird weather transition phase? When itās not quite cold enough for layers but not warm enough for shorts and a tee, finding the right balance can be tricky. With some no-good-than-anyone-but-good-enough fashion knowledge, here is a guide to transitional fashion for dummies.Ā
Base layerĀ
Tops
Starting at the base, I highly recommend using neutral colours and then working up to the top to achieve a unique but cohesive look. I like bold fashion, but sometimes people forget that for it to look good, the outfit needs to be cohesive. A simple plain black, white, or beige shirt works best if you're a minimalist. For those who prefer a trendy outfit, a graphic shirt with a singular object, especially the trending flower print, is top-tier for layering. Itās either you want a monochromatic base layer to match the colour with whatever you are wearing down there or a more interesting look then go for the opposite attraction.Ā
Bottoms
Since we're talking about spring, I'm gravitating toward a more feminine look with summer dresses and maxi skirts. Let me narrow it down to my favourite maxis that are simple but not basic. Gingham is the first candidate that comes to mind, with a little ruffle hem. Second place goes to the mesh asymmetrical skirt with tons of layers (you know, the ones that look like they're straight out of a Vivienne Westwood collection). Side note: those cream-coloured midi skirts paired with cowboy boots will keep you warm during this winter-ish spring. If you prefer a masculine or gender-neutral look, go for jeans. Definitely jeans. As much as I love loose, baggy jeans, a plain pair of comfortable jeans boosts your confidence during the styling process. Jorts work too, as long as theyāre knee-length, and pairing them with high-neck shoes like boots, Converse, or even knee-high socks will complete the look.
Layers
āCause youāre hot and youāre cold, youāre yes and youāre no.ā The weather in Aotearoa is always confusing, which makes layering an essential part of dressing up. If you love modest fashion and business chic, grab lightweight knitwear like a cardigan or sweater. Depending on the colour of your base layer (this works best if you're wearing white or black), the outerwear should be bold and complement the whole outfit - think a red cardigan or some patterns, as long as itās not a neutral colour. If you love black like me, experiment with texture in your layering process, such as adding a fuzzy jacket or a sheer crochet sweater. If thatās not enough layering for you, my favourite classy combo is a plain T-shirt + button-up shirt + jacket. No matter which layer you take off, it always looks intentional because of the cohesive look we've built.
Accessorising
I want to dive into whatās going on inside the minds of those micro-trend final boss girlies when theyāre absolutely killing it with their outfits and accessories. Right now, Iām loving the medal-on-medal moment with gold and silver worn together. Itās unconventionally attractive and money-saving since you donāt need to buy as much jewellery. These girls are stacking gold chains and silver necklaces, often with a gem or two. With the colour analysis trend still going strong, whoās to say you canāt wear both? This approach works just as well for ring stacking and earrings.
Another trend is the oversized flower accessories that everyoneās wearing as necklaces, earrings, or hair clips - so simple yet such a statement. To complete the outfit, sunglasses are a crucial step. Investing in good jewellery is a plus, but investing in quality eyewear is a must. Big-frame sunnies are currently adored by fashion girlies, with a classy colour or pattern that can make or break an outfit. A pair of sunglasses can truly enhance your overall aura. Colour-match your glasses to the palette of your outfit, or stand out from monochrome with a bold choice in colour or pattern. Personally, I love a rectangle moment like Green Quinn from Bored George. Protecting your eyes from the sun while keeping your outfit cute and elegant, a good pair of sunnies will not only prevent eyestrain but also enhance your vision throughout the day.
These are just some personal recommendations for a neat outfit. However, wearing something that you feel like yourself is always the best boost of confidence. Ā
