Returns & Refund Policy

At Bored George, we want you to love your sunglasses. If for any reason you need to return or exchange your purchase, please review the information below to ensure your return meets the eligibility requirements.

New Zealand Returns & Exchanges

We offer free returns or exchanges for New Zealand customers on orders over $100, provided the conditions below are met. For NZ orders under $100, returns and exchanges are still accepted under the same eligibility criteria, but return shipping is at the customer’s cost.

Eligibility criteria

  • Applies to online purchases only

  • You must contact us within 14 days of the delivery date

  • The product must be in its original, unworn condition

  • Items must include the original packaging and accessories

  • The polarised sticker must remain attached to confirm the sunglasses have not been worn

  • Proof of purchase may be requested

The following items are not eligible for return or exchange:

  • Outlet sunglasses (including seconds and samples)

  • Sale items discounted more than 30%

  • Personalised products

Return process

  1. Start your return through our Return/Exchange Portal.

  2. Our team will assess your return request.

  3. If approved, a returns shipping label will be emailed to you.

  4. You will have 7 days to book your return once the label has been issued.

If the return is not lodged within this timeframe, the return request may become invalid.

Australia Returns & Exchanges 

For customers in Australia wishing to return or exchange an item, return shipping costs are not covered by Bored George. Return shipping costs will be calculated and communicated to you by our team once your return request has been assessed.

*If your return arrives without the polarised sticker or original packaging after confirming it was included, a small fee may be deducted from your refund.

US Returns Policy

All US sales are final

Due to the nature of our products, we don’t accept returns or exchanges, or offer refunds, on any order placed through our US store. This policy is displayed at checkout, and by completing your purchase you confirm that you’ve read and agree to these terms. Please review your order carefully before checking out.

Damaged or incorrect items

If your order arrives damaged, or you receive the wrong item, email us at shop@boredgeorge.co.nz within 7 days of delivery. Include your order number and a photo of the item, and we’ll do our very best to make it right. 

Before you buy

Not sure about sizing or fit? Our product pages include detailed size guides and measurements. You’re also welcome to reach out before ordering — we’re always happy to help you find the right pair.

Chargebacks & disputes

Please contact us directly before opening any payment dispute. We’re always willing to work with you to resolve an issue, and we’d much rather sort it out together. By completing a purchase, you agree to this policy.

This policy applies to all orders placed through our US store (boredgeorge.com).

Outlet Sunglasses & Sale Items Return Policy

All purchases of outlet sunglasses and sale items discounted more than 30% are final and are not eligible for returns or exchanges. We recommend double-checking your order before completing your purchase to ensure you are completely satisfied with your selection.

If a promotion is conditional on purchasing multiple pairs of sunglasses (for example “Buy 2 pairs, get 20% off”) and a return is requested for one pair, the order will no longer qualify for the promotional discount. In these cases, the discount will be recalculated and adjusted from the refund amount.

Personalised Cases

Personalised cases are made to order with your chosen initials and cannot be returned, exchanged, or resold. If an order containing a personalised case is refunded (for example, as part of a partial return), the case is retained by you and its $10 value — along with the non-refundable personalisation fee — will be deducted from your refund.

Refund Processing

Upon receiving your returned item, please allow up to three weeks for the refund process to be completed. The breakdown of this timeline is as follows:

  • Transit time for us to receive your return from the courier: 2–6 business days

  • Processing time once your return has been received: 3–5 business days

  • Bank processing time for the refund to appear in your account: 2–5 business days

In many cases, refunds are processed sooner; however, these timeframes account for courier transit and banking delays. Refunds will be issued to the original payment method used for the purchase.

Faulty Items

If you believe your item is faulty, please contact us as soon as you notice the fault at shop@boredgeorge.co.nz. We will assess the issue and, where appropriate, arrange a repair, replacement, or refund in accordance with the New Zealand Consumer Guarantees Act. Australian customers are also covered by their rights under the Australian Consumer Law.

Policy Updates

Bored George reserves the right to modify this policy at any time without prior notice. Any changes will take effect immediately once published on our website.

Warranty

Bored George warranties cover manufacturing faults only — that is, defects in materials or workmanship present at the time your sunglasses were made.

Warranty period

Sunglasses are covered by a 12-month warranty from the date of purchase.

Exclusion: Outlet sunglasses, including seconds and samples, are covered by a 2-month warranty from the date of purchase.

What is covered

Your warranty covers genuine manufacturing faults.

What is not covered

The warranty does not cover damage or faults that fall outside of a manufacturing defect, including but not limited to:

  1. General wear and tear from everyday use

  2. Accidental damage, impact, or breakage (for example, snapped hinges or arms, scratched or cracked lenses caused by drops or pressure)

  3. Damage caused by misuse, improper storage, or failure to follow care instructions

  4. Cosmetic wear that does not affect the function of the sunglasses

  5. Loss or theft

Making a warranty claim

To submit a warranty claim, please use our portal. Our team will assess your claim and, where a manufacturing fault is confirmed, arrange a repair, replacement, or refund as appropriate. Claims that are found to be the result of wear and tear or accidental damage will not be approved under warranty.

This warranty applies in addition to your rights under the New Zealand Consumer Guarantees Act.

Birthday Sale — Promotional Returns Policy

This policy applies to purchases made under our Birthday Sale promotions: the Birthday Bundle Deal and the Free Personalised Card Sleeve offer. It sits alongside our standard Returns Policy and applies specifically to orders containing promotional or gifted items.

1. Promotional offers

1.1 Birthday Bundle Deal. Customers who purchase two qualifying pairs of sunglasses receive a third outlet pair at no charge. The complimentary outlet pair is conditional on the retention of both full-priced pairs.

1.2 Free Personalised Card Sleeve. Orders with a qualifying value of $170 or more receive a complimentary card sleeve, personalised with the customer’s initials. The sleeve is conditional on the qualifying order value being maintained.

2. Returns involving promotional items

2.1 Full returns. Where all items in a promotional order are returned together, a full refund will be issued in accordance with our standard Returns Policy.

2.2 Partial returns — Bundle. Where a customer returns one or both full-priced pairs but retains the complimentary outlet pair, the conditions of the Birthday Bundle Deal are no longer met. The outlet pair ceases to qualify as complimentary, and its standard value of $60 will be deducted from the refund. Alternatively, the customer may return the outlet pair together with the other items at no cost.

2.3 Partial returns — Card Sleeve. Where a return reduces the order value below the $170 threshold, the order no longer qualifies for the complimentary card sleeve. As the sleeve is personalised, it cannot be returned or resold; the customer will retain the item and its value of $10 will be deducted from the refund.

3. Personalised items

Personalised items are made to order and, in accordance with consumer law, are exempt from change-of-mind returns. This does not affect returns where an item is faulty.
